DENTAL APPLICATION

Paving the Way for Preventative Dental Care

We are using Brillouin spectroscopy in a dental application. Our patent-pending approach characterizes the level of demineralization of dental enamel, potentially enabling dental professionals to reliably identify cavity formation 6-12 months earlier than the current standards of care (x-ray, visual, and probing). This will enable dentists to intervene and treat these pre-cavities with existing treatments, like remineralization pastes or fluoride varnishes, reversing damage before a filling is necessary.

We have received a NSF SBIR Phase II award to support this work. 

Industrial Inspection

We’re exploring applications for Brillouin spectroscopy across a number of areas, including polymers, surface coatings, and in-line chemistry.

In-line Viscosity

We're developing in-line Brillouin spectroscopy for chemical analysis, enabling non-contact, real-time monitoring of changes in physical chemistry.
